We’re closing on the house next week and one of the things I’m most looking forward to is spending time relaxing on my porch this summer. There’s nothing like ushering in a hot, humid summer day with a good book, a cold drink and a porch swing, right?
I can’t wait to add a little more seating, some billowy white curtains and a few pops of color to this bad boy. Can you imagine how wonderful it will be to sit here during a thunderstorm, curled up with classic literature like The Great Gatsby? (PS – That’s my real-live side porch, or will be by Easter.)
Here are some pins that get me in the mood to make the porch an even cozier little retreat:

Of course, I could only hope for something so glamorous, given my meager single mama income, but we’ll make it work. I plan on making our covered porch, which is right off of our driveway, more inviting by:
- Mixing my (now weathered) dark rockers (as seen here) with our white porch swing for an eclectic seating ensemble
- Hanging white curtains that will soften up the lines of the columns, offer shade during sunnier parts of the day and can be closed for privacy (or when it rains); I’m thinking of making these from cheap king-sized flat sheets and using drapery rings to hang them
- Bring in some pillows – in bright, fun colors – and perhaps a rug to make the swing and rockers more comfy
- Pot some plants, perhaps lemongrass to keep the mosquitoes away
The porch, though, is really the least of my concerns. We have walls to tear down, walls to construct and walls to modify before we can even move in and enjoy iced tea and naps on the porch.
